The Center for the Congregation in Public Life helps participants develop skills in:

Leadership

  • How to expand convert your ministry from a self-motivated effort to a congregation or community wide action.

  • The role of team-building, affirmation, worship and celebration and efficient administration in the ongoing life of a congregation’s social ministry.

Community & Social Analysis

  • How to identify the concrete realities of your local, regional, or national context and use it as a basis for action.
  • Learn to dig deeper for less obvious realities such as social, economic, political and cultural forces at work in the arena of action.

Theological Reflection

  • Recognize how theological beliefs and assumptions shape your action.

  • Together and individually, learn to practice the art of conversation with the Bible, tradition, academic disciplines, the world's religions, and contemporary beliefs.

Public Participation

  • Learn the use of advocacy tools to influence local, state, and national lawmakers through meetings, letter writing and media strategies.

Acquire skills in group leadership, conflict mediation and collaboration necessary for success for public participation on a government-sponsored citizen advisory committee.
